What is a news report? Why do we need to read news? How does a reporter prepare his/her news? What are the functions of reporter, news source, editor and a newspaper/television/radio etc. as an institution? Types of news? How is news writing? Visual sources. News and agenda.

The course examines the significant characteristics of high quality photographs taken for different purposes such as news, advertising and art in a comparative way. Students experiment with various techniques and styles of photography so as to realize the common elements as well as differences.

Image and Technical image, camera obscura, light and colour, developing an idea for a photograph landscape, portrait and detail, colour and effects, balance and symmetry, 
unity, depth, visual attraction.

This course is prepared for the students who may need to have a general view about the new media industry.

Contents

The past 15 years have witnessed remarkable developments in information and communication technologies (ICT) which has been leading a revolutionary change in media industry. Often called "new media", this growing industry is an interdisciplinary concept covers all online & interactive media platforms such as internet, interactive TV and mobile. After the course, the students will have; (i) an introductory information about new media concept (ii) social, technologic, political, cultural and regulatory consequences of new media 
(iii) various "new media" case studies with "behind-the scene’s (iv) the future perspective for new media industry. Along the course, guest speakers from Turkish "new media" industry will share their own experiences with the students.
